Tonight's Meeting
by Studyover induring tonight's meeting the brother seemed to read out something along the lines of "you may be helping a poor sister who you think may be struggling, but in turn that sister may be getting financial assistance from the government.
it is always best to stick to jehovah's arrangement in these matters so that help can get to those who most need it, including the worldwide work".
i think it may have been an article about social media platforms initially and how they should be avoided and then this was mentioned.

The newsman asked one question and the Uber Elder rambles on for three days. A highly suspected "staged" interview complete with video clips showing how fun and happyfying going the conventions are. Sorry, I couldn't watch the whole thing, gag me with a spoon.

Justaguynamedmorph At first looking at this, I will agree with you that Wt "could" have gotten screwed on this. I don't have an opinion on the Union side of it. I know the unions didn't like WT having their own crane operators that didn't have State licenses and made them get at least one State "licensed" crane operator. The practical test was on a Union owned crane at their training center. I don't think that is a big issue of "freedom of religion". It was a state law regardless of religion of the state protecting workers in general.
I used to purchase for my company diesel fuel for off road use in construction equipment. Even before the dyes started in 1994, we just kept a log and filled out a form to substantiate where we were using the untaxed fuel, ie. in a Dozer moving dirt, farm tractor etc. Before 1994, if you had a permit to purchase non-taxable fuel, it was the same diesel non-colored fuel as taxable fuel and reporting was based on the honesty system.
Then after 1994, in the came the dyes and distrust. Green dye is used for on road diesel fuel and it shows it has been taxed. Red dyed fuel is purchased without the highway tax being paid and if caught with red dyed fuel in a highway truck the penalties are substantial, $10,000 per incident and loss of permit. We just had a spiral notebook that we recorded the gallons for the bulk fuel purchased for off road use and never had any questions from the fuel tax man. It was mostly based on the honesty system.
I suppose in this situation WT purchased the green "on road" taxed diesel fuel and were applying for a refund based that they had used it for off road purposes. Totally legitimate. The New York tax for on road fuel is .076 per dollar or 7.6%. Basically, WT has claimed they had spent close to a $1,000,000 on diesel fuel that should not have been taxed. Just saying, at $3.50 a gallon they are claiming they used 286,000 gallons of diesel fuel building Tuxedo, NY". I would be skeptical also as the tax court was and deny a refund. I don't see that as a realistic number. Especially since they used numerous outside "worldly" contractors who purchased their own fuel and charged WT on a lump sum price.
P.S. Note to the WatchTower Tax Lords. On your next project, have a truck dedicated for and only used for refueling off road machinery and purchase the fuel upfront for off-road-use. Oh, that truck is going to cost about $175,000. Shoot, WT, somebody has to pay the man, and your not big enough not to. BTW, Many companies that I have worked for just pay the fuel tax and pass it on to the customer because they don't want to get bogged down in paperwork. Oh, that's right, WT doesn't pay anything for their slave labor other than food and shelter.

Useing unhealthy fear to force people to obey.
by Yomama infear of being shunned.
do you have any stories?.

Good Question! Yomama. Anna M, I will agree with you on shunning backfiring. Individuals that continue to feed on the crap of the organization dishes out become afraid of even approaching someone who has left, no, they can't even wave at a distance. I recently had a conversation with another "inactive" for 25 years friend and we were talking about the Crickets we hear from family members, even family members that are not going to meetings. It is like in their imagination we are more powerful than ever. I don't have a problem with this, because, quite humbly, "I AM"!

2020 Convention Friday Highlights: Information Control and Hypocrisy
by neat blue dog inthere's yet another talk to add to the list of talks written specifically for damage control against "apostates".
the speaker says, "some who were once part of the christian congregation attempt to mislead us", that they tell "false accusations" & "lies".
to combat this, he says that you should "protect your ears from damaging noise by not listening to it", comparing it to wearing "noise canceling headphones".

Let's take time to put aside our worldly troubles and enjoy this week's meeting". Then the next hour was spent discussing .......worldly troubles! (StudyOver)
I used to be very "negatively" vocal about "Public" Talk outlines highlighting all the negative aspects of governments, the world, etc. for 40 minutes, then have 5 minutes that God's Kingdom will make it all good. I wanted to cut my wrists when someone stuck with the outline. Talks were so depressing. If the writers for the public talks had ever engaged in a formal scholastic debate they would have lost.
In the 1980's they still had conventions that were 1/2 Thursday (I think) then through the weekend. You take off work, get your family all dressed to be at the convention site by 12:00, finally settle in some seats and for four to five hours back to back talks on the subject: Listen, listen, listen, notes, notes, notes, listen, listen, listen, notes, notes, notes. I was not a happy Hot and Damp camper in Houston Texas at the Astro Dome in the summer time.

Sunday WT Study- King of North and South
by truthlover123 inparagraph 8 dealing with who is the anglo-american power -- they note different images- feet of clay, 7 headed beast which has a 8th head arise, and so on.
the last image is of the "false prophet- indicating this is another aspect of the anglo american image quoting revelation 19:20 and saying the wild beast and the false prophet are one in the same -(i see the as separate entities) -- a/a dual world power.
which will be destroyed... .

Beth, I've been wondering the same thing. When the dramatic news of the day is old what is their new paradigm? The old "This is what we have been waiting for" is over for the 300th time.

Interesting That in the Regional Convention They Are Asking for More Volunteers to Bethel
by RubaDub infor those of us who could sit through the program so far, i did find it interesting that they are again asking for people to apply to bethel.. i happened to speak to a friend who called and asked him why they would do that.
his response was that, well, they need younger people there.. i guess once you are over 50 or something you are eligible to be sent out to pasture..

I went to work as a volunteer at the WTF's for a week maybe two in the late 1980s. Out of the whole experience, I remember some really rude arrogant jerks from Canada doing plastering who thought their shit didn't stink. I also remember a brother who left his personal business for a week maybe two, assigned to work in the "Sheet Metal Shop" building a Parts Washer. https://www.harborfreight.com/20-gallon-parts-washer-with-pump-60769.html
I was sent to this department to get some other "stuff" but while talking to the temporary Bethelite he was obviously very upset. Perspective: This "Brother" had left a business that at the least made $500k a year and here he was assigned at WTBTS to make a parts washer that cost $200 bucks retail. The Brother's airfare was probably at least $200.00 not including his man-hours of two weeks. You do the numbers.

It is Rare that elders feel brave enough facing a legal challenge.

Tips on a successful stumble
by Fadeaway1962 inhi i don't mean tie my shoe laces together,.
i realize some theocatic warfare involved (lying) getting fed up with trying to fade .. how do jw family members react?.

It amazes me how being "spiritual" is confused with the physical things of going to meetings, service, working on quick builds, etc. The current Jw thought is being spiritual is supporting the corporation physically, financially, and emotionally, and in verbal commentary. Peter denied Christ many times and yet was selected as the apostle for the "keys to the kingdom". This doesn't seem to be tolerated today.

Wouldn't just writing a statement with a date and having it notarized, or just signed by two witnesses, (NOT JW's) and keep the document for yourself be about the same? For some of us after making the mental decision to leave we have only a few other acquaintances.
I have heard several experiences of family's being out for 15 years and someone stirs up a drama storm and the elders are writing letters requiring a signature and a formal response from the individual family members. The family's response was they wrote letters and they also mentioned how petty the elders were to pursue someone that has had no association for 15 or more years.
The family also mentioned the mental and emotional "pain and suffering" created by the Local Congregation and said that if the elder's bothered them in any other way, pursued them, stalked them, or if an announcement was made concerning them they would sue the three elders personally and then the congregation. The congregations' pursuit was dropped immediately, but the "elders" defended themselves and made the assertion that the pursued family was causing the trouble, saying, they said they would get lawyers and so and such.
